COVID-19: HON SEBASTIAN SANDAARE INTENSIFIES FIGHT IN THE DAFFIAMA-BUSSIE-ISSA CONSTITUENCY

The Member of Parliament for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Constituency, Hon Sebastian Sandaare has been rolling out several activities to help his people win the war against the global pandemic and the outbreak of CSM that has claimed over 40 lives in the Upper West Region.

The Daffiama-Bussie-Issa lawmaker who is a medical doctor by profession has been working restlessly to ensure the safety of his constituents. After sponsoring the health directorate financially to empower health workers in the constituency to confront the strange disease, he has been engaging in intensive sensitization activities across the constituency.

After successfully empowering all Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members in the various communities across the constituency to understand their role in preventing the disease through capacity training programs, the Member of Parliament has again taken the responsibility of involving and educating all community health surveillance volunteers who hitherto were not involved in the fight.

According to him, the community health surveillance volunteers are key players in health delivery at the community level and hence the need to empower and motivate them to help in the fight especially when their work is absolutely voluntary and has no remuneration from government.

Yesterday, the 19th of April, 2020, he trained these community health volunteers in Jimpensi, Jolinyiri, Challa, Tuori, Moyiri and Konzokalaa.

The Legislator has started implementing another strategy by educating mother to mother support groups in all communities. The people of Sazie had their share of this educative program today, 20th April, 2020 as he took the mother to mother support group through the recommended preventive protocols of the covid-19 and educated them on the early signs of CSM and how it can be prevented.

The MP emphasized that women have an important role to play in preventing the spread the pandemic considering the socio-cultural dynamics of the district. He urged all women to take the strange virus seriously.

Bars of soap were distributed to these mothers to aid their hand washing.
He also donated sanitizers, packs of gloves, liquid soap and bleach to the Sazie CHPS .

The capacity training engagement of the mother to mother support groups is expected to continue until the entire constituency is covered.

Speaking to the media after today's engagement, the MP revealed that he considers community based sensitization programs as the best approach in ensuring any effective public education on the pandemic. He said that, so far, he has been able to empower Assembly Members, Unit Committee Members, Community Health Surveillance Volunteers and now on the mother to mother support groups.

He indicated his readiness to mobilize more resources into the fight because he considers the lives of his constituents paramount above any other consideration. "If there would be any effective public education, contact tracing and intelligence picking, the role of Assembly Members, Unit Committee Members, Community Health Surveilance Volunteers and the Mother to Mother support must be indispensable", he added.

He urged those who have benefited from the capacity sensitization program to be ambassadors of the fight by continuing the education in their various communities and households.
