ANTHONY SUMAH'S COMMUNITY SENSITISATION AGAINST COVID-19 AND CSM, LAUDABLE- BIEKPE SYLVESTER
A member of the Executive committee of the National Democratic Congress in the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency, Mr Biekpe Sylvester, has commended the Parliamentary candidate of the NDC in the Constituency, Mr Anthony Sumah Mwinkaara, for his decision to educate and sensitize communities on preventive measures against the deadly Covid-19 and Cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) diseases in the Constituency. The Parliamentary Candidate who is a health services administrator has being touring various communities and engaging households in the Constituency to create awareness of the diseases and to educate them on how to prevent contracting the diseases.
Corona virus disease (Covid-19) has become a global pandemic, claiming many lives across the globe. Ghana currently has 1042 Covid-19 confirmed cases since 12th March, when the first two cases were recorded with 8 of the cases in the Upper West Region. This has prompted many individuals to support the fight against the disease in the Region.
Similarly, the Nadowli Kaleo district has been declared an epicenter of CSM as a result of the number of CSM cases and mortalities recorded in the district. The district has recorded over 74 CSM cases with about 9 deaths, prompting health authorities and the Member of Parliament to put in place measures to curtail the outbreak.
Recognizing that Prevention s better than cure, Mr Anthony Sumah Mwinkaara, an experienced Health Services Administrator, supported the health directorate to deal with both CSM and Covid-19 in the district. Since the outbreak of these diseases, Mr Anthony offered support to the district directorate to carry out public education and sensitisation through a community radio station in the district. To augment this fight, he donated personal protective materials, Veronica buckets, disinfectants, gallons of hand washing liquid soap, and sanitizers to the Nadowli-Kaleo district health directorate. It is worth noting that, every health facility in the district has since benefited from his benovelent support and donations.
Inspite of all the support he extended to the authorities, Mr Sumah's decision to embark on household education and sensitisation in communities against Covid-19 and CSM prevention in the district is laudable and commendable. This action of championing the health needs of the people is an indication of his passion, care and love for the people of the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency.
Mr. Sylvester noted that, the dedication to this education of the people is a clear manifestation that Mr Anthony will better serve the people as a Member of Parliament.
Mr Sylvester Biekpe therefore calls on the people of the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency to give Mr Anthony Sumah the chance to represent them in Parliament when Parliamentary elections are called in December, this year. His experience as an administrator with high level of competence and developmentally oriented is an indication that he is the best choice to replace the veteran second deputy speaker of the seventh Parliament and Member of Parliament, the Rt. Hon A.S.K Bagbin, to continue the vision of continuous growth and development of the Constituency.
