Breaking News

Celebrating Adams Rufai, a Veteran Student activist.

He "roared" from behind when the speaker noticed him and offered him what appeared to be a rare opportunity to contribute to the motion. With a deep voice, he sounded "Mr Speaker!!.......before I break my virginity today..... and there was a seeming unending hear....hear.....from Hon Members and some cheers from the gallery. He delivered a sumptuous presentation on the motion to the admiration of the HOUSE. Yes!  Even the minority caucus were gazing in absolute bemusement. The other related matters of that memorable parliamentary sitting is history.

I precluded my piece with that recap of past events in the student Parliament of Ghana, UEW-K to drum home, a key message through Hon Adams Rufai.

He was a committed member of the house who elevated the standards of activism. He was the few among his contemporaries who sacrificed instructional time for student activism in the name of God and institution.

Walking to and fro the corridors of justice to defend Good Will by ensuring accountability from leaders, offering alternatives during decision making at Local Assembly and getting involve in so many other intellectual activities. In all of these, his creativity, innovations and dexterity were usually almost outstanding.

Through his hard work, he later got appointed as the SRC Counsel Attorney. In that position, he brought the experiences from his activism to bare. Need I not say that his experience really shaltered the administration from political vagaries when opposition, both internal and external, became thick like rainy morning clouds.

When we were leaving UEW-K, people were worried as to how the status quo of activism was going to be sustained. To ensure some some induction for sustainability, a public lecture was organized to enable us "inject the spirit" into "the younger ones". Adams Rufai was one of the speakers alongside my humble self and another respected and award winning activist, Comrade Adingo. From feedback, that single lecture has really done a magic and has placed COLTEK again on a higher pedestal when it comes to real student activism. I will not be wrong to therefore tout Adams Rufai as a legend in the comity of student activism.

Less than a year after our graduation, he has transmogrified to a national figure in both the faith based fraternity and Youth Parliament. The rapidity of his growth speaks volume and gives me a clear certainty that he has more to offer our beloved country.

Indeed, yesterday was his birthday and as a convention within our fraternity, we celebrate the living through our pens on such occasions and Adams Rufai must be celebrated and celebrated well in all fairness.

In the spirit of comradeship, I wish my colleague activist better days ahead in the rest of his life. May Allah continue to shower him with more wisdom and strength to continue his acts of patriotism.

Adams, may this occasion of your birthday begin another fresh tributary in your life that is going to add more volume to your worth of salt. Know that you are a role model to many upcoming activists and a colossus among colleagues. Continue to be generous and loyal to your knowledge. Let your humility and liberality continue and at Allah's appointed time, our struggles shall be blessed.

Long live brother and friend
Happy birthday
