CELEBRATING A HEROIC STUDENT ACTIVIST OF UEW-K

I am with great ecstasy and nostalgia using my pen despite busy schedules, to extend sincere commandarie to no other individual than a person who has contributed to the status quo of student activism of contemporary time.

In fact, when we assumed an embryonic stage on campus politics, such a distinguished personality was very visible in our bit of doing our best for the welfare of students.

I do remember when I met him in student Parliament and demanded to have his contact, he said that " I have been looking for you". We had a very cordial and interesting conversation. Since then, we have been intimate friends and co-equals in the fraternity of student activism.

Adams Rufai is such an intelligent young man who has so much respect for colleagues. His contributions in the floor of student Parliament always develop an unquenchable appetite to contribute. His linguistic intelligence, emotional stability and confidence level, make him one of the best debaters in the house. The affable member of the majority caucus is known for his use of "big grammar".

His line of argument is normally characterised with many references. I must say that his agility sometimes "cajole" the minority. The ability to confuse your opponents sometimes help in winning a debate. This he has always combined effectively with the deputy majority leader, Hon Derbie Raphael, also known for the use of such flamboyant vocabulary.

When Adams got the appointment to serve SRC as the Counsel Attorney, many of us who knew him, were extremely elated not because he is a parliamentarian but his passionate desire in learning constitutional law.

Initially, we were doing things together because he used to consult me a lot. Summarily, he was a close confidant. Politics and governance bring in other things and comradeship  take a different space such that power and friendship don't crush.

I have personally had problems with SRC and do disagree with the top hierarchy of SRC governance but that has not affected our relationship in any way.

Adams, as you celebrate your birthday today, I extend to you this solidarity message of hope, grace and favour. It is my hope that we shall meet again after school to continue to pursue our passion.

It is my prayer that you grow richly to contribute your dues in the development of mother Ghana.

I wish you a joyous birthday.
