ADDAI TAWIAH GIDEON AND HIS TEAM CHALKED UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS

The Accounting Students Association of the University of Education, Winneba, Kumasi is one of the most vibrant Association on campus. The Association called ASA is not only known because of its larger population but its programs and activities.
The Association has actually carved a niche especially in the area of giving quality souvenirs to its members.

In the 207/2018 administration led, a very young gentleman called Addai Gideon, ASA has distinguished itself among other Associations and it is a talk of campus. The very humble leader has enrolled numerous programs and activities to the admiration of all students.

The level unity and conspicuous loyalty among members is obviously as a results of the competence of the young man. For a department to declare some days as "ASA GOES OFFICIAL" where its members wear quality polo white shirts and tie, left many of us thinking of how this young man was able to set that standard. We are in a University where many students have loss trust and confidence in many of its leaders, making students very aggressive and reluctant to take part in any activities, no matter their value.


For him to have changed the story and the seeming unending loss of confidence and trust on student leaders, I give so much respect to him.
When I saw a catalogue of what it was said to be the achievements in his regime, I was extremely astounded. My surprise is not tantamount to do doubting his competence but considering the time period and the many challenges in the university structures that continue to limit many ambitious student leaders in their quest to setting standards. Being a student leader myself, I have come to the realization that, one requires a multitude of uncommon leadership abilities to set such standards with a short period of time.

I have verified from some accounting students and they have confirmed the reality in the grounds, otherwise, I would not have believed that Gideon has indeed achieved that tall list of achievements. Many other people including my readers who understand student leadership would be amazed with his legacy. For the avoidance of doubt, below are the achievements chalked by Addai Gideon, immediate former president of ASA.

PROJECT
●Acquisition of an office
●Acquired office furniture, One (1) office executive table and (3)swivel chairs
●Purchase of four (4) public address system
●Purchase of twenty three (23) boxers of marker distributed to all class
●Repaired spoilt sockets at Fac 17,our usual software training centre

BUS FUND
● Contribution of GHC 4000.00 to bus fund

SPORTS
●Purchase of new Jersey for ASAP
●Champions in Akwaaba Fresher’s Games
●Paid allowance to participants who won the Akwaaba Games
●Purchase of First Aid box, a football, whistle and football pump
●Paid allowance for participants of the campus league

PROGRAMS
●Participated in the lnter Tertiary Business School Debate Championship
●First runner-up, Inter Departmental Debate Competition
●First runner-up, Hult Prize Idea Challenge Contest
●Successfully organized an information session with ACCA
●Well organized Week Celebration in collaboration with MASA
●Collaborated with department to organize a workshop for all students (particularly third and final year within the department)

CHAPLAINCY
●Well organized night of pause by the chaplaincy board
●Organized a spirit filled Revival in collaboration with MASA

SOFTWARE TRAINING
●Successfully Tally ERP.9 Accounting Software for members
●Successfully organized free advanced excel training for members
●Successfully organized Sage 50 Training for members’ website
●Modernized the ASA website which is now www.asauewk.org
●Paid a two year hosting fee for the website
●Creation of an Instagram page, ASA UEW-K
●In consultation with the First ASA Executives drafted the History of ASA UEW-K and also established the vision and Mission statement of ASA

PROFESSIONAL STUDENT DEVELOPMENT
●Educated students on the need to register in to ACCA and ICAG
● Registered over 20 students into professional studentship

SOUVENIRS
●White long sleeve ASA customized shirt
●A blue flying tie and sea blue muffler (the former for males and latter for female)
●ASA exercise book

ADMINISTRATIVE
●Designed new payment voucher for ASA
●Designed a new letterhead(template)
●Purchase of one perforator and 2 Arc files.

Aren't you amazed with such performance? The future of that team is bright and I believe strongly that ASA will always remember them.

The new executives must take a cue to at least maintain the standard or improve it. Let it be a motivation that with commitment and self-will, it is doable. Leadership is simply about the ability to keep and team and lead that team to deliver satisfactory results and Addai Gideon and his team could not have done better.
