PARLIAMENT MUST DEMONSTRATE SINCERITY AND HONESTY

______________________________________________

Ghana politics is just amazing. Star FM broke the news that some Members of the Legislature tested negative. The news report was rubbished.

Indeed, the majority leader described that as lies. The director of public affairs of Parliament also issued a statement and rubbished the report.

It was the minority chief whip who actually confirmed the report and insisted that it was a fact.

The speaker gave a stern warning to the media house that broke the story and staged a fierce defense, insisting that the news was without basis.

These are not ordinary members of the house. They are people who must demonstrate sincerity, honesty and credibility. I don't know whether they do not know that the public expect these values from them.

Members of Parliament are also human beings and not better than others. Indeed, in other countries, those who are tested positive, declare their status. To the extent, very prominent individuals including presidents and celebrities declare their status publicly.

Ironically, here in Ghana and the Parliament of Ghana in particular  some parliamentarians think they are better than others. I know we are in a different sociocultural environment but should Parliament deny that some of them tested positive and later shamelessly admit?

Just today, the Majority Leader was passionately lamenting that some of their members who tested positive still come for sitting and that they should respect the protocols by staying away from the house. The politics of Ghana had no shame at all. Read this for yourself.

Do such lawmakers have any moral right to preach against stigmatization? Obviously no!
By that particular demonstration of dishonesty, they have heightened stigmatization against standard practice.

I am very disappointed in the leadership of Parliament particularly the Speaker and the majority leader. Their conduct put the image of the house in disrepute. That is not acceptable.

When we choose to lie in that manner, we sacrifice the credibility of the house on the alter. That is not good for corporate governance and public confidence.

These are the people who make others think and believe that all politicians are liars. It is a shame!

I think they should apologize to the journalist who broke the news and the entire Ghanaian populace. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.

THE TRUTH BE TOLD!!

I AM THE VILLAGE BOY FROM DBI.
