MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT ORGANISES TECHNICAL TRAINING ON COVID-19 FOR MOTHER-TO-MOTHER SUPPORT GROUPS IN DBI
The member parliament for the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa constituency, Hon Sebastian Ngmenenso Sandaare has implemented a lot of measures to help contain the covid-19 pandemic in the district.
As an interim measure, it will be recalled that the Member of Parliament, who is a medical doctor and a former district health director saw the need to support the district health management team with an amount of ten thousand cedis (Ghc 10,000.00) to enable them train healthcare providers and other auxiliary staff on the virus.
The district has since the beginning of the virus in the country has recorded one case of covid-19 and since then the lawmaker has rolled out a lot of measures to stop the further spread in the district, some of these measures include engagement of assembly members, unit committee members, stakeholders and opinion leaders, technical training for community health surveillance volunteers. The recent to also benefit is the Mother-To-Mother support groups in the district.
Mother-To-Mother support groups are mothers who are advocates to healthcare delivery in our communities. Its core mandate is to ensure that the community is healthy and free from disease. It is therefore based on this that the Member of Parliament organised training on the virus for all the groups in the district. It is the hope that after the training it will equip the mothers very well to help stop the virus in the community.
The mothers’ group in Jollinyiri were very happy after having depth knowledge on the virus. The training took place on Friday, 24th April, 2020 in Jollinyiri. There are four groups in the community and each of the groups was trained separately due to the directive on social distancing. The mothers showed appreciation to the lawyer maker for organising such a session for them. Similar training sessions were organised in Kenkellen, Banonyiri, Challa and Jimpensi. They were also taken through cerebrospinal meningitis since it has already cleared over 40 lives in the region.
Bars of soap were distributed to the women to aid them practice the regular hand washing as directed by the World Health Organisation.
It is expected that similar sessions will be organised for the rest of the groups in the district.
