"BE STILL" A POEM BY GLADYS MBILLA

BE STILL

Be still, if it is time to listen.
Be still, when obsessed with anger.
Be still, when you need be. Rather than hasten
Be still, so your words does not spell danger,
Be still. For a meaningless silence
Is always better than arrogant insolence,
Be still.

Silence is often better than words conveying the wrong impression.
Silence, is better when you can't go in the right direction.
Silence is best, if you can't say it without screaming.
Be silent, if you would be ashamed of your words later, and wish you were dreaming.
Be still, if your words could damage a friendship, be silent.
Be silent, if your words will offend a neighbor, be silent

In the heat of anger, be still.
When life gives you a blow on the soul, be still
And judge not, less you be judged in equal measure, be still.
When you don't know what to think, be still.
Be still, when you are filled with rage be still.
When life surrounds you with mountains of sorrows, be still

And don't act on your emotions, be still.
Never revenge for God is an avenger, be still.
Be still, when you are over joyed be still.
Never make decisions when you are too happy,
Be still, when you are in the midst of emotions,
Be still, just be still and listen to your inner being,
Be still, for in the silence of the heart God speaks.

So just be silent.
