THE AGONY OF AN AFRICAN WOMAN

Load on the head, on the back and within.
Rising with birds at dawn before all,
Settling to sleep, yet again after all,
Coming first out of the home,
But the last to settle back to the home,
Garnished dejection called, submission, that is
The agony of an African woman.

Riding on the nine wings of the moons,
Carrying with her, in her human sac,
The very existence of humankind.
Like a heart of sea, she bear,
The pains up till eternal sleep, in it she bury.
Endurance, perseverance, and forbearance,
The gorgeous mess of an African woman.

Wisdom, foresight, hardwork and knowledge
All lie deep within her heart of sea,
Leaving behind on the  sands of time, for all to see,
The footprints of uncommunicated pain.
Living on the embalmed shadows of endurance.
The agony of an African woman.

Strong, bold and courageous within
Yet, weak, meek, and downtrodden without.
Segregated, imbibed with terror and fear,
Yet riding on the wings of time to bear.
Living under the storm of womanhood
Yet, raising together the hope of nationhood.

Swallowing the bitter pills of male  supremacy.
Bowing, unperturbed to the same male traumatic syndrome.
I looked upon her rotten unshed tears,
Swell up endlessly from her years of fear,
I beheld her pain of suppression in my ears,
I measured the weight of her wisdom in my open palms.
And imagined, life as a suppressed queen,
Really nothing more, than a gorgeous mess.
The agony of an African woman.

Maids, mates, servants or slaves?
Make her a mate not a maid,
My conscience conceives a million tale tongues,
And very tale tank tarnishes male supremacy for a villain,
The agonizing moments of procreation,
The antagonizing male supremacy,
Wells up in the heart of sea of an African woman.
The agony, a gorgeous mess,
The agony of an African woman.
